You’ve already noticed that more and more of your employees, customers, investors, members of the press and other visitors are arriving at your company driving electric vehicles.
With more people driving electric vehicles to save money and reduce pollution, there’s a growing need to find reliable places to recharge batteries.
Now, you and your fellow stakeholders have determined it makes sense to offer dedicated EV charging stations on your premises. People will certainly appreciate it if they could top off the batteries that power their trucks and cars while they’re at your location.
With EV chargers, your workers won’t have to worry about finding a charging station after work before they drive home.

Benefits of Installing Commercial EV Chargers
- Happier Employees and Customers
You’ll keep people happy when you offer commercial EV charging systems. Employees will feel a stronger sense of loyalty, knowing that you are making an effort to give them more convenience. The same goes for customers and vendors who want to top off their battery when visiting your business.
In fact, if customers need to take a few hours to charge their vehicle, that’s more time they can spend shopping in your establishment. - More Efficient Company Fleets
If you have a fleet of electric vehicles or are contemplating switching your fleet from gasoline to electric, it’s prudent to install fast EV charging stations.
Wide Variety of Use Cases for Commercial EV Charging Systems
Electric vehicle chargers are not just good for employees and customers. A range of organizations find it beneficial to install commercial EV chargers. You can charge people to top off their batteries, or make power available for free, such as through a loyalty program for drivers visiting places such as:
- Retail Centers
- Hotels
- Hospitals
- Casinos
- Airports
- Schools and Universities
- Government Facilities
The team at AKG Electrical will advise you on whether it’s best for you to install L2 or L3 charging stations. We’ll also consult with you about whether you want to provide free charging or if you want to charge members of the public to replenish their batteries with your system.
If demand increases after installation, you’ll be glad to know that we are experienced at scaling up commercial EV charging systems so they can accommodate growing number of users.
Types of Charging Stations
There are three tiers of charging systems for electric vehicles.
- Level 1
An L1 charging system uses an ordinary 110-volt outlet. Since it takes up to 50 hours to replenish an EV battery to 80 percent, an L1 charger is more suitable for home installation where drivers do not face long commutes. It’s best to consider L2 or L3 for commercial charging situations. - Level 2
Your company will need a 240-volt electric circuit to use an L2 EV charging system. This type of equipment can charge electric vehicle batteries to 80 percent in about 4 to 10 hours. We may need to upgrade your electric system to accommodate 240-volt service. - Level 3
Also known as direct current fast charging (DCFC) systems, L3 chargers can restore a battery to 80 percent within 20 to 60 minutes. These systems are appropriate in high-traffic locations, such as at shopping centers, supermarkets, and restaurants. They need 480-volt electrical service.
